The job I was offered fell through but I was offered something infinitely better at a company called Volta Trucks. They’re developing electric trucks to make cities more sustainable and reduce carbon emissions in the delivery chain. Feels good to be working for a company with the same values as me and I’m very much stoked to be there.
However, the job is also four times as busy as my last, meaning I don’t get much time for much else during my working day. At weekends we try to get out as much as possible, leaving little time for anything else like writing.
Which to be honest is fine. I have things drafted and ready to tinker with but at the minute I’m just not feeling it. When things quieten down at work and I relax into a routine, I’m sure I’ll get back to it. I’ll try to stick something on my blog every now and again so feel free to bookmark it.
Sally has down quite a bit of volunteer days with the Brecon Beacons National Park and I’ve managed to squeeze some days in as well. In the above photo, I’m setting up lures next to a camera trap. We’re trying to find pine martens in the area but so far haven’t had much luck. I’m not sure we’ll get much but it’s fun to just go off trail and figure out where the little buggers might be.
My Writing
Lockdown Journal 2020 - I sorted through some writing I made during the first year of covid and lockdowns.
Colour - Random bits of colour I spotted while out for a walk.

Other Interesting Links
The Invisible City - How a homeless man built a shelter underground. Really good long read from The Guardian.
A Touch of Moss - A beautiful piece of writing on the simplest of things, moss.
Back From The Brink - How beavers, bison and bears returned to Europe.
Books I’ve Read & Enjoyed
Tokyo Vice | Jake Adelstein - Jake Adelstein’s account of his time working as the first foreign reporter at the Yomiuri Shimbun in Japan. He worked on a lot of crime stories, including the Yakuza, and while some of it is grim reading, it’s also interesting to read the cultural stuff as well.
Englands Dreaming: The Sex Pistols and Punk Rock | Jon Savage - We recently watched The Pistols and wanted to read more about the history of The Sex Pistols. While this covers the band it also covers a lot of the backstory of Malcolm Mclaren and the UK punk scene. At over 500 pages, it’s a hefty tome, but it really filled in blanks.
The Storyteller | Dave Grohl - This guy is such a sweet dude. He tells of his childhood, learning to drum, his first job with the band Skream, Nirvana, Kurt’s death and then life after with the Foos. I got through this book pretty quickly, he can tell a story.
Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild & True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road | Kyle Buchanan - I was lent this by Sally’s brother. I’d read excerpts online so it was nice to read the full thing. Hard to believe how long it took for this film to get made and the way it was made. George Miller is a mad genius.
That’s it for now. Thanks for reading. Get outside, explore and stay safe. Till next time.
